Sacrificial Service is Normal

Episode Summary

Don’t let fear rob you from blessing another with an opportunity to serve.

Episode Transcription

Hi, I’m Joni Eareckson Tada. As we grow older, or a family member ages or sustains a life-altering disability, sometimes we’re quick to say, “I don’t want to be a burden.” And with 48 years of quadriplegia, I am the first to confess that thought has crossed my mind. My dear husband Ken and the friends who help with my caregiving routines—it’s not easy for them; it requires time and sacrifice. But when it comes to families—especially Christian families—that’s our calling to depend upon one another. In a society that boasts individualism, the Christian family is to showcase to the world that sacrificial service is normal; that we are not ‘independent,’ but ‘interdependent.’ That’s the beauty of Galatians 6, which tells us that we fulfill the law of Christ when we “carry each other’s burdens.” So, don’t let fear rob you from blessing another with an opportunity to serve. That’s what Christian love is all about.
