Never lose your zest for life and your yearning for heaven – home is just on the horizon!
Hi, I’m Joni Eareckson Tada. As I get older – and I say this as a quadriplegic in her 60s – as I get older, I need to better savor each 24-hour slice of time and make good use of it. That’s why I love this quote from Henry Van Dyke. He says, “I shall grow old, but never lose life’s zest, because the road’s last turn I’m certain will be the best.” Oh, I love that attitude; as I always say, it’s onward and upward. It’s one day down for us all, and those of us who have faith in Jesus, it’s one day closer to heaven. You and I are sojourners on this planet; we are salt; we are light in this dark world and our words do make a difference – our witness does have an impact. So no matter what your age or your ability or, in my case, disability, take Henry Van Dyke’s advice and cheer up! Never lose the zest for life and yearning for heaven. It’s just one or two more turns in the road – three for some – and you will be home.
