When you say no to ungodliness and yes to grace, holiness becomes doable – and that pleases the Lord.
Hi, I’m Joni Eareckson Tada. The Bible tells us to be holy as our Father in Heaven is holy—but how do we do that? It’s kind of a high standard, right? Well, actually friend, it’s doable. One example is in 1 Thessalonians 4. Verse three says: “Avoid sexual immorality.” To repeat, just avoid it. If you’re enticed by desires, turn off the TV, hang up the phone, cancel the magazine subscription. Is that hard to do? Yes, of course it is. But the Bible says elsewhere, to beat your body into submission. Half the Christian life is not allowing our desires and appetites rule the day. So, get in the habit of saying no. And listen it’s not a matter of dos and don’ts; it’s not a matter of keeping rules. Our motive in doing these things—in pursuing holiness—is to please our Heavenly Father. For when you say no to ungodliness and yes to grace, holiness becomes doable. And that pleases the Lord.
