Episode Transcription

Hi, I’m Joni Eareckson Tada. Most people welcome babies into this world with flowers or balloons, but obstetrician Dr. Andy has a unique tradition. You see, this doctor singsto the babies as he delivers them. Why? Well, Dr. Andy says, “When I sing to these newborn babies … I’m singing to [an] important person. There’s a miracle of life in my hands.” Oh my goodness, in a culture where children are seen as too expensive, too time-consuming, too inconvenient, this physician welcomes newborn babes with a “Happy Birthday” serenade—reminding us that, indeed, “children are a gift of the Lord.” Friend, you may not be a doctor or a singer, but how do you see the children in your life? If all you see is a rebellious teenager or a very messy toddler, take another look. Psalm 127 says that, that child is a gift from God, a miracle of his awesome power and provision. And that’s worth singing about.
