You’re only truly serving God when you do it with a joyful heart.
Hi, I’m Joni Eareckson Tada and I love where Psalm 100 says, “Serve the Lord with gladness!” You know, I’ve got a great Christian friend who does exactly that. Ask for help, or ask her to do something – she smiles and says, “I'm on it!” She makes asking for help fun. And that brings delight to the Lord. Charles Spurgeon once said, “Those who serve God with a sad countenance, because they do what is unpleasant to them, are not serving God at all. They bring the form of loyalty, but the life is totally absent. God is the Lord of the empire of love, and He would have those who serve Him to do so with exceeding joy.” So, today as you serve others, imagine, right now, God’s angels serving for joy before His very presence. And then, ask the Lord that today just a little of that great gladness might filter down into your to-do list. Surely that’ll put a smile in your heart as you serve!
