If you wake up feeling weary, ask God to give you a song in your suffering, and sing loudly and triumphantly.
Hi, I’m Joni Eareckson Tada, and I woke up this morning in such pain. But I also woke up with a hymn on my heart: “Through many dangers, toils, and snares, I have already come; ’tis grace that brought me safe this far, and grace shall lead me home.” That’s the third verse to “Amazing Grace” and, oh, that stanza has enough spiritual muscle to barge into my weary soul and shake awake a hope-filled response! And so, if you happen to wake up in the morning feeling weary and worn out and weak before the day has hardly begun, ask God to give you a song in your suffering. Together, let’s be like the choir of Levites in 2 Chronicles who marched onto the battlefield, singing loudly and triumphantly. There’s room for you in that choir, so join me in singing your way through every suffering. That’s amazing grace!
