A Moment with Joni Eareckson Tada

Soul-Scrubbing

Episode Summary

Do not resist God when trials come, because you are not as delicate as you think – you are a living stone.

Episode Transcription

Hi, I’m Joni Eareckson Tada, and I’m not a jewelry buff, but I do know that my wedding ring sure does shine best when I give it a good scrubbing with some toothpaste every now and then. Now, I realize you shouldn’t use Crest toothpaste on your jewelry, but I don’t think that diamonds are as delicate as we’re led to believe – I mean, come on, they drill for oil with diamonds, right? Surely those stones can stand a little scrubbing with toothpaste. And we believers are just like these stones. In fact, 1 Peter 2 calls us living stones. That means you and I have to put up with some, well, some hard soul-scrubbing every now and then, but in this we should greatly rejoice because we’re not pebbles without a purpose. We’re destined to reflect the glory of God. So hang in there a bit longer and do not resist God when trials come, because you are not as delicate as you think – you are a stone. In fact, a living stone.
