Speak up for the world’s disabled, giving them hope in Christ!
Hi, I’m Joni Eareckson Tada. And recently the young people from Mandarin Baptist Church of LA covenanted to go without speaking for 30 hours, all in an effort to understand how most of the world's 1 billion people with disabilities lack a voice in their own countries. When this 30-hour exercise was completed, Aileen wrote me and said, "Joni, I never realized how ‘voiceless’ people with disabilities can feel. But when I had to go without speaking, wow; it was so hard; because I always have a lot to say. I tried to communicate with my friends through mime and mimic, but few people understood me. I now understand some of the frustration that people with disabilities in developing nations feel. And I'm excited to now be a better servant to them of Jesus.” Proverbs 31 says, “Speak up for those who cannot speak for themselves.” Friend, let’s ‘speak up’ for and speak to the world’s disabled, giving them hope in Christ!
