Episode Transcription

Hi, I’m Joni Eareckson Tada. In Ephesians 5, Paul tells the church that there, “should [not] be obscenity, foolish talk or coarse joking, which are out of place, but rather thanksgiving.” Wait, you say, what does obscenity have to do with a lack of thanksgiving? Well, according to Paul, everything. You see, Jesus had been beaten, mutilated, crucified; hung on a cross like meat on a hook, all to save us from hell. Therefore, we must live in a way that is worthy of His sacrifice. So, what Paul is saying is: “Look guys, when you talk this way; when you laugh at raunchy jokes or entertain lustful thoughts; when you say things that are coarse or crude, you are living beneath the dignity of a Christian; you are showing that you’re actually ungrateful for all that Jesus did for you on the cross.” Oh, friend, let’s change the way we think and speak. Show gratitude by the way you live.
