Instead of just training physically, train to live a godly, righteous, and thoughtful life – that’s a lot more important.
Hi, I’m Joni Eareckson Tada and I sure loved watching the recent Olympic games. Those athletes work tirelessly to increase their strength. But, oh, after racing four laps in a pool? You could see it on TV how exhausted they were, heaving and breathing hard. But it’s the pay-off of physical training. But you know, all those great benefits of physical training only last as long as these athletes exert themselves. It kind of reminds me of what Oswald Chambers once said. He said, “If there is no strain, there is no strength… If you spend yourself physically, you become exhausted; but spend yourself spiritually, and you get more strength.” That’s the beauty of 1 Timothy 4:8 where the Holy Spirit tells us, “Physical training is for some value, but godliness has value for all things.” Friend, make sure you are in training to live a godly, righteous, and a thoughtful life. Because the pay-off – it has eternal reward.
