God loves you because he is love.
Hi, I’m Joni Eareckson Tada. Have you ever looked in the mirror and thought, ew. Yuck! Come on, I know you’ve done it. Now that I am up in years, I see the lines above my lip, I see the hairs on my chin – and I’ve got wrinkles! But I tell you what; I wish I had the same gut reaction when it comes to holding a mirror up to my soul. The times I have, I’ve thought, God, how can you stand me? I’m so lazy, I’m fickle; my soul is so ugly. And this is why Deuteronomy 7 is so comforting. There it says, “The Lord did not set his affection on you and choose you because you were more numerous than other people’s, for you were the fewest of all peoples. It was because the Lord loved you and kept the oath, he swore to your forefathers ….” Did you hear that? God didn’t choose you or me because we were the ‘hot ticket.’ He loves you because he is love. So, don’t be afraid to hold up that spiritual mirror.
