Even when you feel lifeless, remember that in Christ your spirit can revive and grow, just like a tree that sprouts again from its stump.
Hi, I’m Joni Eareckson Tada. My friend Shannon lives in a great deal of pain – constant and nonstop. We pray for each other, and I am always impressed with her ability to persevere. The other day she was outside in the woods beyond her backyard. And she saw a stump of a tree and, immediately, it brought to mind a special Scripture she had read recently in the book of Job. It says in the 14th chapter, “For there is hope for a tree, if it is cut down, it will sprout again and that its tender shoots will not cease. Though its … stump may die in the ground, yet at the scent of water it will bud, and bring forth branches like a plant.” Like Shannon, at times you may feel cut down, dry and lifeless in your spirit. Well, remember, trees have hope, and so do people. Christ is in the ministry of revival, especially revival of the heart. So, like that stump in the ground, persevere friend – persevere.
