Ladders are meant to be climbed.
Hi, I’m Joni Eareckson Tada. And do you remember as a child singing the ever so popular, “We are climbing Jacob’s Ladder?” Well, the Bible says that “As Jacob slept, he dreamed of a stairway that reached from the earth to heaven. And he saw the angels of God going up and down the stairway.” I think it’s interesting that Jacob’s ladder is never mentioned again until Jesus arrives on the scene. Because listen to this: in John 1, Jesus says, “I tell you the truth, you shall see heaven opened, and the angels of God ascending and descending on the Son of Man.” Friend, did you hear that? Jesus was pointing at himself as Jacob’s ladder! Jesus had come to close the distance, to bridge the gulf, gaping chasm between God and man. So, let’s climb that ladder, going higher and higher with each rung, getting to know Jesus better and better – ladders, even Jacob’s ladder are meant to be climbed.
