A Moment with Joni Eareckson Tada

Stake Yourself

Episode Summary

Stake yourself today in Jesus.

Episode Transcription

Hi, I’m Joni Eareckson Tada and I love flowers. The other day my coworker Evalerie was complimenting my pot of orchids when she mentioned hers were not looking as great. That’s because Evalerie had forgotten to “stake” her orchids. You see, orchids do not naturally grow upwards. In their natural habitat, orchids often grow on trees and then grow sideways or downwards—it’s just their natural tendency. So, in order to keep an orchid’s shoot from slumping, one must tie or clip the shoot to a stake to guide the orchid’s growth upwards. If not, the weight of the flowers will eventually break the stem. And you know what? We’re not much different than orchids: unless guided, we tend to go wayward, even downward. It’s why I love the wise words of Proverbs 3, “In all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight.” Today remember to “stake” yourself to Jesus.
