Hi, I’m Joni Eareckson Tada, and sometimes we gloss over Scripture so quickly, that we miss what it actually says. Like John 15 where Jesus says, “I am the true vine, and my father is the gardener. He cuts off every branch in me that bears no fruit, while every branch that does bear fruit, he prunes so that it will be even more fruitful.” Oh friend, read that again. Is your Christian life in neutral? Or in park or reverse? You’re not exhibiting anything of Christ’s character? Do you live in such a way that makes God embarrassed? Well, let John 15 be a warning because the divine gardener is still in the business of cutting off branches. Look, I don’t want that! And God is merciful enough to not wish it on you either. So what does he do? He gives us ice cold splashes of suffering to wake us up out of our spiritual slumber. Friend, don’t complain if you are feeling the pruning shears – God definitely wants to keep you in the vine.
