Jesus went through the worst of hell so that he might give you the best of heaven, so stay near the cross.
Hi, I’m Joni Eareckson Tada. There was always a crowd around Jesus, people pushing to get close – wanting to be healed and saved. When he taught in a home, people spilled out onto the front yard and climbed up on the roof. When he walked down the streets, people had to climb trees – guys like Zacchaeus – just to get a look at him. However, there was one place where no one was shoving to get close; no one wanted a ringside seat. It was the place of the cross. And sadly, it’s true today. Many Christians love the idea of getting close to Jesus, but when we discover that it means taking up a cross and dying to sin, we are satisfied to remain at – well – a nice, safe, respectable distance away from the cross. Oh, friend, don’t let that be you! Christ surrendered to the worst of hell that he might give you the best of heaven – and that is reason enough to stay very near the cross.
