A Moment with Joni Eareckson Tada

Still Powerful Today

Episode Summary

It’s not easy but do good to those who oppose you – it says so in the Bible.

Episode Transcription

Hi, I’m Joni Eareckson Tada. I grew up in the 1950s when our schoolteacher started each day of class reading from the Bible; always followed by the Pledge of Allegiance and class prayer. My favorite hit song on the radio back then was “The Bible Tells Me So” sung by Roy Rogers and Dale Evans. I forgot about that song until recently, while eating at a Cracker Barrel restaurant, I glanced up and saw the old sheet music displayed on the wall [along with a lot of other old-fashioned relics]. And I started singing the line, “Do good to your enemies, and the blessed Lord you’ll surely please, how do I know? The Bible tells me so.” Good words back in the 1950s, and they are as powerful today. Especially in these dangerous, unsettling times. It’s a different world than the one I grew up in. It’s a different America! But doing good to those who opposed you? That never goes out of date.
