Hear Joni share some helpful tips on how to have an inclusive game night for families living with disabilities.
Hi, I’m Joni Eareckson Tada with some helpful tips about planning family activities around a child with special needs. Because I’m sure you’ve had family nights when you get out the board games, make the popcorn, and have great expectations of a fun-filled evening. But then, the night ends with board pieces all over the floor and someone’s crying in their room. Well, let me give you a tip. When you have a child with autism or Down syndrome or some other disability, choose an activity that no one has to “work hard on;” lower the level of competition and keep the activity short. You might consider doing a game outside or playtime with a pet. And when it comes to your disabled child and their siblings – don’t keep score; enjoy each other! It’s what the Bible tells us to do anyway! See you later at joniradio.org. Again, that’s joniradio.org.
