Only Jesus can quench the thirst of your soul – remind yourself of the Good News of Jesus.
Hi, I’m Joni Eareckson Tada, and I’m happy to tell you I’ve dumped a bad habit. I have stopped drinking Diet Cokes. With that sugar substitute in it, I found the more I drank, the thirstier I became! And that’s the way of aspartame, isn’t it? And you know what? It’s also the way of life. We think that substitutes for real joy and peace will suffice, when they only make us thirstier for the real thing. Jesus said in John 7, “If anyone is thirsty, let him come to me and drink. Whoever believes in me… streams of living water will flow from within him.” Oh friend, only Jesus can quench the thirst of our innermost being. He is the Source of real joy and peace of mind. Other substitutes – maybe a big home, a new job, straight As, or even a new car – they just can’t satisfy the thirst of your soul. So think about it – is your spirit dry and parched today? Well, quench it with the Good News of Jesus. Something to think about the next time you pick up a Diet Coke.
