I’m Joni Eareckson Tada and sometimes it is so easy to get wound up in the things of this world: getting uptight about which newsfeed is reliable, worrying about politics, balancing your home budget. I can focus too much on my chronic pain – how best to treat it, endure it, how to sleep through it. But the other day I read a great quote by Charles Spurgeon. He said: “We make too much of this poor world. Allot to this brief life, its brief considerations… and to eternity, its happy meditations. [Because] Soon, our April showers of pain will be over, and we will step into the unfading flowers of endless May.” Wow! Friend, soon all our earthly trials will be over; our troubles will be far behind us and we will step into the unfading flowers of an endless May. That’s a great reminder to keep your heart free from the cares of this world.
