Today if you find yourself alone with no friends around, remember: Jesus is your comforting friend.
Hi, I’m Joni Eareckson Tada. Back when I was in the hospital, there were times when friends weren’t allowed in, like late at night. So, I comforted myself by imagining a visit from another friend, from Jesus. I was inspired to do that by John 15 where Jesus calls his disciples, his friends. And so, I pictured Jesus—coming through the open doors of my hospital ward, walking over to my bedside, and saying: “Hey friend, what did you learn in physical therapy today? Tell me all about it. Was it nice to see your sister earlier in the evening? Anything you want to get off your chest? Tell me all about it, Joni.” Talking with Jesus like that strengthened my confidence in him. He became my friend who saw me through months of suicidal depression. So please, if today you find yourself alone with no friends around [maybe you’re housebound or you’ve moved from home], remember: Jesus is your comforting friend.
