As a Christian, your heart longs for the city above, and God calls you to live as a loving alien here while bringing others home to heaven.
Hi, I’m Joni Eareckson Tada. And I love that old classic Tony Bennett song called “I Left my Heart in San Francisco.” The last line is all about coming home to the city that his heart longs for. And, in a way, that’s the Christian’s song, isn’t it? When we came to Christ, the Lord freed us from the god of this age. You used to be kidnapped and brainwashed, made to think you were really a citizen of enemy territory. But then the King found you and shocked you out of your spiritual stupor, and now? You realize that this world is not your home, and your heart longs for the city above. For now, though, the king tells us to stay here in enemy territory, albeit dangerous, and live like an alien in love with the homeland. Friend, don’t leave your heart in San Francisco, or any city on earth. When it comes time to go to heaven, God asks only one thing of you. Tell others about Jesus and bring home to heaven as many as you can grab with you.
