Because we inhale and exhale Jesus’s life-sustaining grace every day, it is so easy to take his grace for granted. Today, thank God for the air you breathe, and thank him for Jesus, the very breath of your life.
I’m Joni Eareckson Tada. And oh, to breathe. Taking deep breaths feels so good for me as a quadriplegic. Once when I was struggling with pneumonia, the doctor gave me an oxygen tank so I could breathe easier. Never did I appreciate oxygen so much! Never before did I realize how good it felt; how fresh it was; how much of a difference it made. Up until my illness, I took breathing for granted. But in the hospital, I discovered afresh how life sustaining oxygen truly is. This is often the way we relate to Jesus, our true life and breath. Acts 17 tells us that, “… In him we live and move and have our being.” Think of that. Because we have our very being in Jesus, because we inhale and exhale his life-sustaining grace every day, without even thinking, it is so easy to take his grace for granted. So today, thank God for the air you breathe, and thank him for Jesus, the very breath of your life.
