Next time you meet someone who has a disability, don’t be quick to judge. God is at work and in control, no matter who or what is to blame.
Hi, I’m Joni Eareckson Tada. And my disabled friend, Anna, was at the grocery store when a man stopped her and asked what medication her mother took when pregnant that caused Anna’s “condition.” Anna was stunned. I mean, this man assumed that her disability was her mother’s fault, when in fact Anna’s condition is the result of a random occurrence that is not genetic, nor is it prompted by anything her mother did during pregnancy. And you know what? The same thing was happening back in Jesus’s day. The old “who’s to blame” mentality was at play when people questioned a man born blind. But Jesus told them: “Neither this man nor his parents sinned, but this happened so that the works of God might be displayed in him.” Next time you meet someone who has a disability, don’t be quick to judge. God is at work and in control, no matter who or what is to blame.
