Those who do not know Jesus may seem to be growing, but a branch that is cut off from the tree will soon die. Rejoice that you are connected to the root!
Hi, I’m Joni Eareckson Tada. And it’s a fact that those who do not believe in God often have polished reputations and shining health. They’ve got jobs with big salaries and kids with straight As. And you look at them, and you think, “Their life is growing! Why can’t my life be like that?” But is their life on the growing side? St. Augustine once said, “It is better to be a little sprig in the tree joined to the root, than to be an arm cut off from the root.” And Augustine was right. When a great branch is cut off from a tree, it may be thick and lush, heavy with green leaves, but in a short time, it will wither and die. And so it is with the people of this world. They are like lush, green branches cut off from a tree, for although they have talents and riches, they have no union with God. They may look like they “have it all,” but you have your all in all – Jesus Christ. So, little sprig, cheer up, you are connected to the root.
