Start listening carefully to what you say to your friends and strive to always tell the truth so that the Lord can take delight in you.
Hi, I’m Joni Eareckson Tada asking, do you like to exaggerate? Like maybe coming out of a Sunday service saying, “I can't believe my pastor preached for a whole hour-and-a-half.” When in reality, he just preached ten minutes longer than usual, which cut into your lunchtime. Or maybe you’re the kind who’d say, “It rained all day, and I got soaking wet.” Translation: It sprinkled lightly, and my hair and sweater got slightly damp. Sometimes we exaggerate to puff ourselves up in front of friends, or we feel insecure and so slant the facts to grab people’s attention. Whatever the reason, exaggerating is like lying, it’s not the truth. And Proverbs 12 says, “The Lord detests lying lips, but he delights in men who are truthful.” So, let’s start listening carefully to what we say and strive to tell the truth. For in so doing, God will take delight in you. And that’s a promise from Proverbs 12.
