Treat others with respect and dignity just as Christ would do for you.
Hi, I’m Joni Eareckson Tada. You know, there are many things that strike me about John 9—the story of the man who was born blind and received healing from Jesus. But what’s most striking is the way the story opens. Because when the twelve disciples first encounter the blind man, they offer no kind word to him, no greeting. They didn’t even give him coins. Instead, they set up a tribunal, asking Jesus, “Who sinned here? The blind man or his parents?” Can you imagine how that made this blind man feel? To them, he was nothing more than a chalkboard for a lesson on sin! Oh, but not to Jesus. Jesus is the only one who treated the blind man with respect, dignity, and compassion. Whether or not a person’s sin has caused his misfortune is not the point. The point is, here’s a damaged individual who needs a Christ-like, compassionate response. Will you give that today? I sure hope you will.
