Episode Transcription

Hi, I’m Joni, and I wonder: would you consider yourself “poor in spirit?” Do you feel like that’s a good state to be in? Or does being “poor in spirit” sound like you’re missing or lacking something? Well, if you feel poor in spirit, then good. Because Jesus says in Matthew 5, “Blessed are the poor in spirit.” In other words, blessed are you; happy and glad are you if you feel spiritually lacking! Because it’s a sign that you realize how much you need Jesus every single morning when you wake up. I know that when I open my eyes in the morning, I always come to God in empty-handed spiritual poverty, knowing full well that I lack the strength to face the day. God pours out his grace on people like that. So, tomorrow morning when you get up, recognize how poor in spirit you really are and how much you need the precious grace of the Lord Jesus Christ.
