The Right Desire

Episode Summary

Today, ask the Lord to give you the divine desire to do his good will.

Episode Transcription

Hi, I’m Joni Eareckson Tada. There are plenty of things we “ought” to do—we ought to eat healthier, read the Bible more, be more thankful—but rarely do we have a heartfelt desire to do what we should do. It’s like Romans says, “The mind of the flesh is hostile to God…it is not able to submit to the law of the Father.” Truth is, only God can give us the, well, the “want to,” the desire. There’s nothing about me that screams, “Be thankful,” when my back is aching or “eat healthy” when I see a tasty slice of pie. So, if you’re having trouble doing what you ought to do, be relieved because you’re not alone. And then, in humility and sincerity, ask the Lord to give you the “want,” that divine desire to do what is good—the kind of good that will improve your relationships, strengthen your body, and build your faith. Today, ask the Lord to incline your heart to “want” to do his good will.
