In the midst of suffering, turn to Jesus, the healing balm who soothes your deepest wounds.
Hi, I’m Joni Eareckson Tada. When hardships broadside us, when pain settles in to stay, you cannot help but cry out, “Oh, God is there no relief?” I know you’ve been there. And the prophet Jeremiah wondered the same. Amidst the horror of the Babylonian invasion, the prophet looked eastward and he cried out, “Is there no balm in Gilead? Is there no physician over there?” Gilead was a land famous for producing medicinal balms to heal wounds. But the answer to the problems of God’s people was not in Gilead. The cure came out of Palestine: Jesus is the ointment to soothe the wounded; He is the salve that eases pain. Jesus said in Luke 5, “It is not the healthy who need a doctor, but the sick ... for I have come not to call the righteous, but sinners.” So today, whatever your trouble, turn to Jesus. He’s the balm in Gilead, the only cure that can heal your wounded soul.
