Sometimes the tapestry of your life can look like one great big knot. But take heart! Your circumstances are being sewn together into a grand work of art.
Hi, I’m Joni Eareckson Tada, and my friend Patti has a knack for embroidery. In fact, displayed on my bedroom walls are several of her embroidered works – one of which has roses embellished around a wonderful poem of encouragement, with each letter delicately hand-sewn. It’s absolutely stunning on the front side, but when you turn it over, well, it’s not so pretty anymore. I mean, it all looks like a real mess – a bunch of knots of thread all matted and gnarled and twisted. You can’t make sense of it. Well, as Corrie ten Boom used to say, when it comes to life, we often only see the underside of the tapestry. Our setbacks and victories, our tears and laughter – sometimes it all seems like one big great knot. But oh, friend, your circumstances are being sewn together into a Romans 8 grand work of art. You can call it the sovereignty of God, but I like to call it the tapestry of Jesus.
