Tests come to strengthen your faith and teach obedience to the Lord Jesus.
Hi, I’m Joni Eareckson Tada. Remember in high school or college when you would crack the books, study a lesson really hard and then you were tested? Well, the Bible looks at tests a little differently. Hebrews 5 says that Jesus learned obedience through the things He suffered. In other words, you and I learn the lesson, the importance of obedience through testing – not so much before, but as we go through it, as we come out the other side of a hard test. And if Jesus had to learn obedience that way, I don’t think we are above our master. So, “do not be surprised at the fiery ordeal that has come to test you,” First Peter 4 says, “as though something strange were happening.” Rather, today, welcome that trial as a friend because it has come to test your faith and to teach you to obey the Lord Jesus. Oh, my goodness, friend, that is a test you definitely want to pass with flying colors.
