Whatever hard season of life you’re in, find comfort in the Lord. Elisabeth Elliot would agree it’s a hard journey, but God is with you through thick and thin.
Hi, I’m Joni Eareckson Tada. And you’ve probably heard of Elisabeth Elliot [the author of Through Gates of Splendor]. Her first husband, Jim Elliot, died in the late 50s after Auca Indians speared him and four other missionaries to death. Elisabeth remained in Ecuador for seven years working with the nationals and then returned to the states. Years ago, I had the pleasure of speaking at many conferences with her, but her health has worsened, and her memory is fading. And so, in this season of life, Elisabeth has turned to Isaiah 43 where it says, “When you pass through the waters, I will be with you … when you walk through the fire, you shall not be burned.” Oh friend, whether you or a loved one is experiencing the difficult changes that come with advanced age, I pray that you’ll find comfort in the Lord. Elisabeth would agree it’s a hard journey, but God is with you through thick and thin.
