Even amid trials and losses, leaning on God day by day is the secret to a strong, lasting marriage.
I’m Joni Eareckson Tada and my friend Marg just celebrated her 42nd wedding anniversary. Marg and her husband have a lot to celebrate, given their many losses with jobs and health. So, she wrote me, saying, “Joni, remember the song you sang in my wedding? It was the hymn ‘Day by Day.’ I thank you for that!” You know, I reflected on the words and could understand her gratitude: “Day by day and with each passing moment, strength I find to meet my trials here. Trusting in my Father’s wise bestowment, I have no cause for worry or for fear. He whose heart is kind beyond all measure gives to me each day what He deems best. Constantly, it’s part of pain and pleasure; mingling toil with peace and rest.” Think that’s an odd wedding song? Well, it sure is practical! Because 1 Corinthians 7 says that trials will come. And knowing that gets any marriage off to a great start.
