You’re really serving God when you do it with a happy and joyful heart.
Hi, I’m Joni Eareckson Tada, and scripture says, “Serve the Lord with gladness!” Doing that is a glorious occupation. On the other hand, those who do not serve God with a glad heart cancel out all the benefits their service could have won them. Charles Spurgeon put it like this; he wrote: “Those who serve God with a sad countenance, because they do what is unpleasant to them, are not serving Him at all; they bring the form of loyalty, but the life is absent. Our God requires no slave to grace’s throne; He is the Lord of the empire of love and would have His servants dressed in the uniform of joy.” Friend, can you join me in doing that today? Think of all the angels right now, along with all the departed saints singing and serving for joy before the Lord. Ask God that just a little of that great gladness might filter down into your to-do list today and put a smile on your heart.
