A Moment with Joni Eareckson Tada

Unless the Lord Builds the House

Episode Summary

The Lord has chosen you, even with all your inadequacies and hesitations. So next time you go to boast in work you’ve done, remember to boast in the heavenly builder.

Episode Transcription

Hi, I’m Joni Eareckson Tada. My Daddy was a building contractor and when I was a little girl, I loved to go along on one of his jobs. One day Daddy took me to see a finished house [one in which I helped with the cement—it was so cool!]. And he said to me, “Joni, what do you think of the house you built.” Me? The builder? “Daddy,” I said, “I may have helped, but I certainly didn’t build the house.” You know, I recall that scene now whenever I complete a big ministry project. Because Psalm 127 says, “Unless the Lord builds the house, the builders labor in vain.” I need to remember that it’s his project, and he is to receive the glory for it. And so, in humility, I thank the Lord that he has chosen me to be a tool for his work. And he’s chosen you too, even with all your inadequacies and hesitations. So next time you boast in work you’ve done, remember to boast in the heavenly builder.
