Episode Transcription

Hi, I’m Joni Eareckson Tada. And back when I was first injured, I could always count on my mother to brighten the day. I remember one Saturday morning, my mother [with permission from the nurses] brought into the hospital a pitcher, a basin and a bottle of shampoo. It had been four months since I had washed my hair! But what surprised me was what came next. Because as soon as my mother finished helping me, she said to the other spinal cord injured girls in my ward, “Okay, who wants to be next?” And for the rest of the day, my mother and sister washed the hair of all five girls in my room. Jesus commands us to love our neighbors as we love ourselves, and my mother loved these girls as she loved me. But friend, it doesn’t have to be washing someone’s hair; there are many ways in which you can serve someone who is in the hospital and do it, in the name of Jesus.
