Real power doesn’t come from struggling, but from trusting God to carry you on eagle’s wings. Today, choose to rise above life’s challenges on wings of grace.
Hi, I’m Joni Eareckson Tada. And I love the way Isaiah 40 describes eagles and the way they soar. Ben Patterson once wrote that, “as birds go, an eagle’s wings are big, but the muscles that make them flap are not. Pound for pound, an eagle’s strength is no match for the strength of [let’s say] a hummingbird. The strength of eagles is not in their flapping, but in their soaring.” I’m sure you’ve seen it happen. An eagle will perch on the edge of a canyon and then cast himself down into the abyss. With wings outstretched, he will then find the warm updraft from the depths below – an updraft on which he will circle and soar until he rises far above the canyon’s edge. Isaiah 40 says that those who trust in the Lord will soar as on eagle’s wings. May we Christians be known not for all our frantic flapping, but for casting ourselves out into the unknown, and soaring upward on the wings of the Spirit.
