Let memories of what you enjoyed in the past propel you into hope for the future.
Hi, I’m Joni Eareckson Tada, and some time ago, my husband Ken and I were back in Maryland for the holidays. We were watching old family movies. My cousin Eddie dimmed the lights and flicked on his movie projector, and oh, my goodness! There I was, 15 years old, holding on to the reins of my horse! I was so excited to see that. But you know, there was a time when seeing that would have made me wish I could go back in time. But the past is the past. And now, I delight in the thought of what my new body will be in heaven. That’s what Colossians 3 is all about: “Set your minds on things above, not earthly things.” So, friend, do not be dwelling on the past. Don’t feel regrets that you can’t physically do what you once did. And if the memories still hurt, stop for a moment and let those feelings about the past catapult you into the future. Let the groaning not be for “what once was,” but “what will soon be!”
