Even in your darkest moments, you don’t have to be afraid—because Jesus isn’t just the giver of light and salvation; he is your light and salvation.
Hi, I’m Joni Eareckson Tada, and I’ll admit it: when I was a little girl, I liked to sleep with the light on. Especially if there was a babysitter downstairs, rather than my mom and dad. A dark bedroom is not as scary with a light on. Light chases away fears and gives comfort. And Psalm 27:1 says, “The Lord is my light and my salvation—whom shall I fear? The Lord is the stronghold of my life—of whom shall I be afraid?” What a personal statement: He’s my light and my salvation. It is not said merely that the Lord gives light; he is light. He doesn’t give salvation, he is salvation. Jesus is light within, light around, light reflected from you, and light to be revealed to you. So, do not be afraid of “what’s out there in the dark.” For if light and salvation is for you, who could possibly be against you?!
