Today, ask Jesus what your purpose is.
Hi, I’m Joni Eareckson Tada. And in John 9, the disciples asked Jesus a question about the source of a man’s blindness. Was it his fault or his parents? And though there’s no record that they said it aloud, the disciples probably wondered if it might have been God’s fault, too. But the answer? Jesus tells them, “This happened so that the works of God might be displayed.” Jesus was inasmuch saying, “I’m not going to tell you who is at fault, that’s not what matters here. What will result from this man’s blindness is what matters.” And friend, like the disciples, we are often quick to ask the Lord why hardships happen, but not for what purpose. Sure, it’s hard to not ask why when you feel cheated in life—I should know, I’m in a wheelchair; I’ve asked those questions. But today, lift up your concerns to Jesus with a different question: ask for what purpose. It is the better question to put forth.
