Whatever you are facing today, hold your spiteful tongue and win the battle with words of praise.
Hi, I’m Joni Eareckson Tada, and you know the story: Paul and Silas, deep in a stinky dungeon, bruised and lacerated. Being chained to a wall, every bone must have ached. Yet, they do an incredible thing. At midnight – at the darkest and loneliest hour – Paul and Silas are found praying and singing praises to God. And they are singing loudly, the Bible says. They were doing what Psalm 106 says, “O Lord, gather us to triumph in Thy praise.” And their simple act of praise won the battle against Satan that mad midnight hour. Friend, no matter how much your kids bug you, no matter how often you feel stepped on by others, no matter what the circumstances at home or the office, victory is possible when we hold our spiteful tongue and we win the battle with words of praise. If Paul and Silas could do that in a jail, guess what – you can do it at home or at the office.
