Hi, I’m Joni Eareckson Tada. We all know Psalm 23, where it says, “Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil.” It’s a psalm often quoted at funerals and memorial services. But it’s also a good verse for those who are living. Because every single day, we die a thousand deaths. We don't just walk through the valley of the shadow of death when we get a terrible medical report or survive a stroke. We go through the valley of the shadow of death every time we say no to our selfish desires. Left to our own, we could not do that. But the Lord, our Shepherd, guides us with His rod and staff on a path of righteous living. So don’t be discouraged. Today, say “yes” to the grace of God and “no” to sin—say no to those bad habits and dark thoughts. Walk through that valley of the shadow of death and surely, goodness and mercy will follow you all the days of your life.
