Whatever your job may be—no matter how ordinary—it becomes exalted when you remember you are serving a king.
Hi, I’m Joni Eareckson Tada. And if you are a Christian who has a job flipping burgers at McDonald’s, it’s hard to look at your work as exalted, right? A stay-at-home mother who changes diapers all day long, loads dishwashers, and haggles with an appliance repairman may look at her work as less than exalted, too. But consider these workers in 1 Chronicles 4:23, “They were the potters… they stayed there and worked for the king.” Although these potters were involved in menial labor and elbow-deep in mud all day long, they were working for the king. And it’s always a great privilege to be enlisted in royal service; to do whatever is needed for the king. Remember, no matter how lowly your occupation, Colossians 3 says that it is the Lord Christ whom you are serving. So, serve wholeheartedly. Your diligence and excellence in labor, have the attention of the great high king.
