Let go of the “I am God” mentality. The Bible tells you to serve only one God—and he won’t put up with anything less.
Hi, I’m Joni Eareckson Tada. And I remember when one of the leaders of our ministry led his first staff meeting. He wanted us to understand his weakness in spite of his leadership position. So, he started off saying, “I'm not God and neither are you.” You might be thinking, “Well, that’s a no brainer.” But listen to what Ezekiel 28 says [and Ezekiel is speaking of the king of Tyre], he says, “In the pride of your heart you say, ‘I am a god…’ Ah, but you are a man… though you think you are as wise as a god.’” King Tyre had a problem with pride. And, oh, how often like that king we are! We admit God controls the universe, yet we want to control the realm of our daydreams. We say God is holy, but we decide when and how to confess our sin. Sound familiar? Well, friend, let go of the “I am God” mentality. The Bible tells us to serve only one God—and he won’t put up with anything less.
