A Moment with Joni Eareckson Tada

You Are Useful

Episode Summary

In Jesus, you leave behind worthlessness and step into a life of purpose.

Episode Transcription

Hi, I’m Joni Eareckson Tada. The Apostle Paul wrote several letters from prison, but perhaps the shortest is his letter to Philemon. Paul had a specific topic in mind. It was the issue of Onesimus, the runaway slave of Philemon. Onesimus had been a slave, and in verse 11 it says that he was useless to his master. But when Onesimus met Paul and came to Christ, he went from being useless to useful, helping Paul share the Gospel from prison. Onesimus held such a dear place in Paul’s heart, that he referred to him as “my son.” No longer was Onesimus to be seen as a lowly slave, but rather as a beloved and valuable co-laborer in Christ. Maybe you too are feeling worthless, like you have no purpose, like you can do no good. If so, be encouraged! In Jesus, you are useful in the kingdom! No longer are you a slave to sin – no, you are a co-laborer of Christ. And friend, that is huge.
