Hi, I’m Joni Eareckson Tada. And every day, 11-year-old Fernanda spends her time lying in a small room, while her mother, Denise, works as a maid. Because of her disability, Fernanda doesn’t interact with the children in her barrio. What’s more, these two have no support. “It’s just us,” Denise said through tears, “We are alone in this world.” It’s why when we met them at our Wheels for the World outreach, we knew a wheelchair for Fernanda would not be enough. This single mother and child needed Jesus—the God who promises to “never leave us nor forsake us.” And they needed community—a Christian family of brothers and sisters. That day we shared with them the Gospel and connected them with a local church.
