Do not give up on doing good, because you have a Father in heaven who is preparing a rich welcome home for you.
I’m Joni Eareckson Tada, and when it comes to hanging in there through tough times, doing good, and making the right choices, I tell you, it’s not easy. But that’s why 2 Peter 1 is so encouraging. It says that “If you do these things… you will receive a rich welcome into the eternal kingdom of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.” Now, the basis for that rich welcome is not worldly success, no. It’s talking about obedience; adding to your faith goodness, self-control, kindness. And if you do that, then your eternal estate will be more exalted. Oh, my goodness, what a powerful and exciting thought – no, it’s a fact: our present conduct has a direct bearing on how rich our welcome into heaven will be. So, as Galatians says, be not weary in well doing, ’cause if you persevere, you’ve got a Father in heaven who’s preparing an exorbitantly rich welcome home for you.
